The investigation opened after Joseph Kwok, 66, was found dead by a family member on Monday evening. Detective Inspector Scott Beard said this morning the man’s wife Mei Han Chong was found dead in Greenhithe in North Auckland.

Beard announced the arrest at a conference this morning.

“Auckland police have sadly located the missing 67-year-old Mei Han Chong deceased,” he said.

“As a result of our inquiries, a male has been taken into custody overnight.

“This Glenfield man, who we believe to be involved, was identified and located by detectives in Hamilton late last night, and has now been charged with two counts of murder.

“The 42-year-old male is due to appear in the Auckland District Court this morning.”
