Two people are in hospital after a shooting in South Auckland.

Police say two people received gunshot wounds in an incident in Oratu Place, in Manurewa, about 4:30am on Sunday.

Both injured people have been taken to hospital.

Officers were working to understand what had happened.

A warning was also issued on Sunday morning for a report of an active shooter on the city campus of the University of Auckland, however police confirmed soon after that it was an organised bird culling exercise and there was no danger.
