Two people are dead and three others are injured after a serious crash in Christchurch overnight.

Police were alerted to the crash on Tunnel Rd “just before midnight”, a spokesperson said this morning.

The collision involved two cars and a motorcycle.

As well as the two deaths, two people were critically injured and one was seriously injured.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are under way,” police said.

“Tunnel Road remains closed in both directions, from the intersection with Ferry Road to Bridle Path Road.

“Motorists are asked to follow the diversions that are in place.”

It brings the Christmas-New Year holiday road toll to 15, including one dead in a crash in Waikato overnight.
